Grade 9 Natural Science
4 Seasons
Science is a discipline that sustains enjoyment and curiosity about the world and natural phenomena. It deals a lot with links to related topics to form understanding of nature and connectedness in Natural Sciences.
Natural Sciences lays the basis of further studies in more specific science disciplines, such as Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Earth Sciences or Agricultural Sciences. It prepares learners for active participation in a democratic society that values human rights and promotes responsibility towards the environment.
Natural Sciences can also prepare learners for economic activity and self-expression through the knowledge strands used to organise the content such as Life and Living, Matter and Materials, Energy and Change and Planet Earth and Beyond.

Forces
Episode 1
A force is a push or a pull on an object. The unit in which we measure force is a newton (N). It is named after Sir Isaac Newton, an English physicist and mathematician. Sir Isaac Newton is recognised as one of the most influential scientists of all times. The unit of force is named after him in ...

07:09Episode 2
Gravitational force
Episode 2
Gravitational force causes things to fall down towards the Earth and prevents us from falling off the planet is the gravitational force. Gravitational forces exist between any two objects with mass and they are forces of attraction (pull). In this lesson we take a closer look at gravitational for...

06:14Episode 3
Magnetic forces
Episode 3
The magnetic force is a consequence of the electromagnetic force, one of the four fundamental forces of nature, and is caused by the motion of charges. Two objects containing charge with the same direction of motion have a magnetic attraction force between them. In this lesson we take a look at m...

06:02Episode 4
Electrostatic forces
Episode 4
Electrostatic forces are non-contact forces; they pull or push on objects without touching them.We take a look at the forces that exists between objects that are charged. We also revise some concept son static electricity form grade 8.
-
Electrical cells, conductors and resistors.
Episode 5
An electrical conductor is a substance that allows an electrical current to pass through it and an insulator is a non-conducting material that does not carry any charge. We take a closer look at electrical cells and batteries as well as the different types of conductors that we find. We also take...

09:34Episode 6
Series circuits
Episode 6
A series circuit provides only one path for electric current to move through the circuit. We study what happens when more cells or resistors are added into a series circuit.
-
07:31Episode 7
Parallel circuits
Episode 7
A parallel circuit provides more than one path for the electric current to move through the circuit. We investigate what happens when we add cells in parallel in a circuit.
-
07:10Episode 8
Safety with electricity
Episode 8
Households use parallel circuits to ensure energy flow for multiple rooms. We discuss the different safety measures that are in place in our homes and appliances and we also look at the dangers associated with electricity.
-
06:54Episode 9
Electricity generation
Episode 9
Electricity is generated in a power station. In previous grades, we have looked at how electricity is generated within coal-powered power stations and distributed to the country in the national electricity grid. We are going to revise some of these concepts.

06:48Episode 10
Cost of electricity
Episode 10
Electrical power is the rate of electrical energy supply. It is the amount of energy supplied per unit of time. In simpler terms, it is how fast the electrical energy is supplied. Power is measured in watts (W). We learn how to calculate the cost of electricity per item and how electricity costs ...
